Forceps remove the loosened suture by pulling the thread from the skin.

A gentle pressure is applied to the handle that bends the staple, resulting in straightened ends of the staple so that it can be removed from the skin. The patient may feel a little pinch or slight pull.

• Adhesive wound closure strips are then applied on the wound in order to allow it to continue strengthening. 

Don’ts 

• Don’t lift the staple remover when the handle is in the squeezed position 
• If Wound dehiscence occurs do not open the remaining staples/sutures. 
• Dehiscence is a surgical complication where a surgical incision reopens.
