This new type of resin is made from biobased raw materials where a large percentage is renewable starch. It is biodegradable when exposed to naturally-occurring bacteria species. The resin is available as a low-viscosity system with a base and a curing agent, as a thermoplastic compound for injection moulding, and as a fibre for textile production and compression moulding of fibres.

Used for:

The resin can substitute for traditional oil-based resins in many industries, including the automotive, wind energy, aerospace, textile, and construction industries. The resin binds well to natural fibres such as wood, flax, hemp, cotton, and jute; it is therefore well suited for the production of biodegradable composite products. One potential application is for binding wood veneer and fibres in compression moulded plywood and fibreboard.

Details:

The resin is processable with known thermoplastic techniques and can be processed at temperatures below 200°C.

The sample:

The sample is granules of the compound for injection moulding. You get a couple of grams in a small container as seen on the product picture.

Bio based 3D resins

3Dresyns bio-based 3D resins have been designed for environmentally friendly 3D printing with ultra high bio-based carbon content (bio content) of up to 85-90% (ISO 16620*) from renewable resources, such as soya, corn, bamboo, pea, psyllium, oligosaccharides, inulin, algae, and other nut, bean, plant (non animal), bio-based renewable raw materials. 
Our SLA DLP & LCD 3D resins are more eco-friendly than conventional synthetic plastics, which take thousands of years to fully decompose. Despite being eco friendly not all bio based 3D resins are compostable since they are typically printed at high thickness.
Some of our bio-based 3D resins with even 85-90% Bio content have been designed to be durable despite their degradation speed is much faster than petrochemical plastics.
Others, such as 3Dresyns BioDeg Corn, besides having 85% Bio content (ISO 16620*) are biodegradable and compostable.

*Note: With the ISO 16620 standard the biobased carbon content can be reported either as a fraction of the  Total Organic Carbon TOC or as the Total Carbon TC, while with the EN 16640 standard the biobased carbon content (bio content) is reported as a fraction of the TC. 3Dresyns bio content is reported as as a fraction of the TC.
