There are a number of different types of urine collection as described below:
Accu-Tell supply professional and honest service.
The first urine of the morning is collected, either directly into a sterile universal 20ml container, or may be passed into another clean container then dispensed into a sterile 20ml universal container.
This collection procedure is used to test the urine in the middle of the bladder. During urination, a small amount of urine should be passed into the toilet, then, stopping the flow of the urine, a small amount ('mid-stream catch') should be caught in a sterile 20ml universal container.
Used to collect urine specimens from catheterised patients. Urine should be collected by aspiration from the rubber section (Port) in the tubing. Prior to aspiration the catheter port should be disinfected with a 70% alcohol wipe. Do not collect urine from a collection bag.
This type of urine collection is used to measure 24 hour urinary excretion of a number of analytes. In general, collections are started in the morning of the day of collection, and the following procedure should be followed:
Pass the first urine of the day and discard it. Record this time as the start time of the collection on the collection bottle.
Collect all urine passed over the next 24 hours, either directly into the bottle or via another clean container.
Record the completion time on the 24hr container upon completion of the collection
